The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of punishing first-time voters in the limited voter registration exercise. He claimed that the EC’s decision to require first-time voters to travel to district offices to register is a deliberate attempt to inconvenience them.
Dr Boamah’s Facebook Post
According to a recent announcement, the registration process is set to take place from September 12 to October 2, 2023. Dr Boamah, in a Facebook post, expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision of the Electoral Commission (EC), claiming it was a manifestation of institutional decay. Furthermore, he accused the EC of collaborating with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to create unfair conditions for first-time voters.
The Minority’s plan
The National Chair of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, also encouraged eligible voters to participate in the limited voter registration in order to have their names added to the electoral roll. Mr Asiedu Nketia stated that the decision to change the date of the Minority’s planned protest against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana was necessitated by the registration exercise.
The minority has rescheduled the protest to October 3
Due to the change in date, the Minority has rescheduled the protest to October 3. The NDC is urging all eligible voters to take advantage of the registration exercise to register and have their voices heard in the upcoming election. The party has also promised to mobilize its supporters to join the demonstration against corruption and mismanagement at the central bank.
Supreme Court Suit Against the EC’s
