Black Stars coach Chris Hughton believes Ghana will maintain their positive record at the Baba Yara Stadium as they prepare to lock horns with the Central African Republic (CAR).
In the crucial 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier Ghana must win or draw to secure qualification to the next AFCON to be hosted by Ivory Coast next year.
Hughton’s Opinion
Hughton is certain the Black Stars will defend their stellar home record in Kumasi despite a warning from CAR coach Raoula Savoy about their intention to startle Ghana. The Black Stars last suffered a loss at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi 23 years ago, when South Africa eliminated Ghana in the 2000 AFCON, which was jointly hosted by Nigeria and Ghana.
Expectations
“Everybody knows what this game [Black Stars vs. CAR] means,” he told the media during Wednesday’s presser ahead of the game.
“We will do everything that we can to the result that we want to get. Preparation has been good. We are missing some players through injuries but it is also an opportunity for others.
Records
“We are playing at home. We have a good record here and it is a record that we want to continue.”
Conclusion
After taking over as Black Stars coach in March, Hughton has only managed one victory in three games, which came against Nigeria in Kumasi thanks to a late goal from Antoine Semenyo.
The much-anticipated clash will come off on Thursday, September 7 at 16:00 GMT.
